Lesson 2: The Second Temptation (according to the Gospel of Matthew)
2-1. Who took Jesus to the highest point of the temple?
The devil.
2-2. Why?
To tempt him.
2-3. What is the requirement for no harm, no disaster and to have your ways guarded?
Make the Most High your dwelling place.
2-4. Who is the dwelling place?
God.
2-5. Who is the "he" in "Because he loves me,...?"
Anyone who dwells in God.
2-6. Did Jesus dwell in the Most High?
Yes.
2-7. Did Jesus love God?
Yes.
2-8. The first must be servant of whom?
All.
2-9. Who is the first in God's kingdom?
God.
2-10. Are you Saved by works?
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
2-11. What are we told about the verse that Jesus quoted from Deuteronomy?
v38 "This is the first and greatest commandment."
2-12. Where was the place that God was tested?
Massah.
2-13. In verse 17:1-2 what did the Israelites want?
Water.
2-14. At the end of verse 2 what did Moses ask?
"Why do you put the Lord you God to the test?"
2-15. In verse 7, why was the place called Massah?
Because the Israelites quarreled and tested the Lord.
